Amateur Radio Emergency Service

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service  (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment, with their local  ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Ogemaw, Arenac, and Oscoda counties have separate ARES groups.

All three counties work closely together. Each county has an emergency coordinator, appointed by the ARRL and approved by the emergency manager in their respective counties.

The EC is responsible for recruiting, training, and developing a call out plan for their county. Assistant EC may be appointed by the county EC to assist with various tasks, or to serve as EC if the EC is absent.

Your participation is needed for these programs to succeed. If you would like to join us, please contact the EC from the county
of your choice. You may also join more than one county if you like. For more information please contact:

Ogemaw County EC Chris Barbb, W8COP @ 989-685-3120
Arenac County EC Charles Rood, AB8SY @ 989-846-8331
Oscoda County EC Cameron Thurston, N9KOP @ 989-390-7318
